Bridgeport is a South Side Chicago neighborhood about three miles southwest of the Loop, between the South Branch of the Chicago River and Pershing Road, from the railroad tracks west of the Dan Ryan to Ashland Avenue. It's mostly in the 60608 zip code. One of the city's oldest neighborhoods, Bridgeport grew up around the Illinois & Michigan Canal in the 1800s and has been the home or birthplace of five Chicago mayors, including both Richard J. and Richard M. Single-family homes range from 19th-century brick and frame worker's cottages on narrow city lots to larger renovated and newer houses, with four-bedroom homes selling for a median of about $690,000. Two-flats and three-flats are a big part of the market and popular with buyers who want to live in one unit and rent out the other. Townhouses and condos are a smaller share, with the median condo selling for about $335,000.
Parks: Palmisano Park, a former limestone quarry, has walking paths, a fishing pond and skyline views. McGuane Park has sports fields, a playground and a fieldhouse.

The CTA Orange Line stops at Halsted, on the neighborhood's west side, with a quick ride to the Loop and Midway Airport. The Red Line's Sox–35th station is just east, next to Rate Field. The Stevenson Expressway (I-55) runs along the north edge and the Dan Ryan along the east, and buses run on Halsted, Archer, 31st and 35th Streets.
