An HVAC tune-up is a scheduled visit from a licensed technician who inspects, cleans, and adjusts your heating and cooling system so it runs efficiently and safely. Most homeowners get one twice a year: once in spring to prep the air conditioner for summer, and once in fall to prep the furnace for winter.
Why it's worth scheduling
A tune-up catches small problems, a worn part, a dirty coil, a loose electrical connection, before they turn into a breakdown in the middle of a heat wave or a cold snap. It also keeps your system running efficiently, which shows up as a lower energy bill, and it extends the life of equipment that's expensive to replace. On the furnace side, a technician checking your heat exchanger and venting for cracks or blockages is also a safety step, since a damaged heat exchanger can allow carbon monoxide into your home. Many manufacturer warranties also require documented annual maintenance to stay valid, so a tune-up can protect coverage you're already paying for.
