Logan Square Is Getting a New Splash Pad — And You Can Vote on the Design

If you're moving to Chicago — or already calling Logan Square home — here's a feel-good update worth knowing about. Unity Park, the beloved neighborhood park at 2636 N. Kimball Ave., is getting a brand-new splash pad, and the community gets to help choose the design. According to Block Club Chicago, voting is open now through May 1, 2026.

What's happening at Unity Park

The Chicago Park District is upgrading the water feature at Unity Park with an entirely new, custom water playground designed for children ages 2–12. A key focus of the project is improving accessibility — the new splash pad is specifically being designed to be more accessible for children with limited mobility.

Neighbors can choose between two design options: one featuring four overhead water spray structures of varying sizes along with other aquatic equipment, and a second option with two overhead spray features and a curved water structure.

How to vote

Neighbors can vote online through May 1, or cast their vote in person at the 35th Ward Office at 2934 N. Milwaukee Ave., unit C.

As for timing, the Park District will submit a permit for the selected design once the voting period closes. Permit review and construction bidding will factor into the final timeline, though the project is expected to be completed this year, according to the 35th Ward Office.

Why this matters for families considering Logan Square

Unity Park has been a cornerstone of the Logan Square community for decades — literally built by the neighborhood itself. The park's name recognizes the persistent efforts of the diverse Logan Square community in making it a reality, from its origins as a converted parking lot in the late 1960s to the community-driven expansions that followed.

Today, the 1.42-acre park sits about two and a half blocks south of Diversey Parkway and three blocks west of Kedzie Boulevard, putting it squarely in the heart of one of Chicago's most vibrant and sought-after neighborhoods. Alongside the splash pad, the park features a playground, a gazebo, an ornamental garden, and a seasonal comfort station — making it a genuine gathering place for families year-round.

For buyers and families considering a move to Logan Square, this kind of community investment is a meaningful signal. Parks like Unity Park aren't just amenities — they're the fabric of neighborhood life, and upgrades like this one reflect a community that's actively invested in its future.

Logan Square: one of Chicago's most livable neighborhoods

Logan Square consistently ranks among Chicago's most desirable neighborhoods for a reason. Tree-lined boulevards, a thriving restaurant and café scene, strong transit access via the Blue Line, and a genuine community spirit make it a draw for young families, professionals, and long-time Chicagoans alike.

With new residential development underway — including projects like the Hollander loft apartment redevelopment on Milwaukee Avenue — and public spaces like Unity Park getting renewed investment, Logan Square continues to be one of the most compelling places to plant roots on Chicago's Northwest Side.
