On Lakeview East's Broadway, the New Openings Keep Landing Between Wellington and Belmont

Walk North Broadway south from Belmont and count the storefronts that weren't there last winter. On the 3100 block you pass Tilly Bagel Shop at 3162, then Noodleverse at 3139, then Sila's Mediterranean at 3112. That's three new counters inside a few hundred feet. Keep going and the next block down, between Barry and Wellington, holds the former Stella's Diner at 3042, which is being renovated to reopen as Ann Sather.

Put the 2026 food openings on a map and nearly all of them sit between Wellington and Belmont. The Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce closed those same blocks to traffic for three Dine Out on Broadway weekends this summer. The rest of Broadway between Diversey and Addison changed too, mostly with coffee, groceries, cakes and services. The places where you sit down to eat have been collecting in a two-block pocket.

Three new counters on the 3100 block

The block between Barry and Belmont added its three newcomers in under four months. All three are built for walking in, ordering and leaving.

Tilly Bagel Shop, 3162 N. Broadway. WTTW listed it among the summer's upcoming openings, with a June 27 date, and described the Lakeview shop as the chain's third in Chicago after South Loop and West Loop. The Infatuation had reviewed it by June 29, covering bagels, specialty flavors and breakfast sandwiches. Tilly's own site says it serves seven days a week.

Noodleverse, 3139 N. Broadway. The Southport Corridor News reported the restaurant open the week of October 5. Noodleverse started as a stall in a Chinatown basement food court before taking a standalone storefront in Lakeview. The Infatuation review lists three ways to order the noodles: in hot spicy beef soup, in cold broth, or in tomato-and-egg sauce. Dumplings and rice bowls are also on the menu.

Sila's Mediterranean, 3112 N. Broadway. Sila's holds its Chamber ribbon cutting tomorrow, October 13, at 2 p.m. It's the brand's second Chicago location. The first is at 201 W. Madison in the Loop. Sila's serves bowls of vegetables, grains and falafel or grilled chicken, plus wraps, salads and gyros. The location page lists Lakeview hours as 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. daily. The homepage says 9 p.m., so check before a late order.

The newcomers joined an established neighbor. The Bagel, the Jewish deli at 3107 N. Broadway, has been across the street the whole time. That puts two bagel shops on the same block, at opposite ends.

Ann Sather's move adds to the same stretch

The biggest change for these blocks hasn't opened yet. Block Club Chicago reported on August 3 that Stella's Diner would close permanently after its sale to Tom Tunney, who owns Ann Sather and represented the 44th Ward as alderperson for two decades. Tunney told Block Club that the Ann Sather at 3415 N. Broadway would relocate to the former Stella's space once renovations are finished. He described the new space this way:

"This is a little bigger, with bigger outdoor seating. We look forward to the opportunity to continue to serve our Lakeview residents."

So Ann Sather is staying in Lakeview, just moving about four blocks south. The Chicago Sun-Times gave the reason for leaving 3415: the landlord wanted that space for a neighboring business to expand into. Tunney told the paper he hoped to open in October. Secret Chicago reported on August 6 that the 3415 location would close shortly before the new one opens.

As of today, October 12, none of the sources we've reviewed confirms an opening date at 3042. For now, the cinnamon rolls are still at 3415.

Marvin Barsky, who owned Stella's, told Block Club he wanted to concentrate on The Bagel. His next restaurant will be a second Bagel in downtown Glenview. Once Ann Sather reopens at 3042, the owner of The Bagel and the owner of Ann Sather will run restaurants across the street from each other, the way Block Club described The Bagel's position relative to Stella's. Both businesses have been on Broadway for years.

South of Wellington, coffee and groceries

The blocks between Diversey and Wellington changed too, though not with restaurants. In March the Chamber listed businesses heading to Broadway, and two on that list are now running.

  • Aura Coffee Bar & Roastery, 2833 N. Broadway. Its site says "Now Open in Lakeview." The shop roasts its own beans and is open 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. daily.
  • Hooley Market, 2947 N. Broadway. This specialty food and gift shop promotes in-store events on its website.

These are both daytime, pick-something-up shops. The longer meals on this part of Broadway still mostly happen north of Wellington.

North of Belmont, services and a relaunch

Above Belmont the changes are fewer, and some come with an asterisk.

Address Business Status as of October 12
3243 N. Broadway Chicago Sugar Daddy Held a "flagship" grand-opening weekend October 8 to 10
3401 N. Broadway The Face Foundrie Open for facials, lashes, brows and skincare
3409 N. Broadway Milly's Pizza in the Pan Planned in March, Lakeview opening unconfirmed
3415 N. Broadway Ann Sather Open until the move to 3042

Chicago Sugar Daddy, the custom cake shop that makes treats for any dietary need, held its grand-opening weekend October 8 to 10. It isn't new to the block, though. The same outlet covered the shop opening at 3243 N. Broadway in October 2021, and no report we found explains what the 2026 "flagship" event added.

The Face Foundrie's location page gives its address as 3401 N. Broadway. That's a few doors from the 3407 the Chamber listed in March. Hours run 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends. The Chamber's March list also named Millie's Pizza in the Pan for 3409 N. Broadway, known for square, crisp-edged pizza. The Milly's location page we found lists 925 N. Ashland, so treat the Lakeview opening as unconfirmed for now.

That makes 3401 through 3415 the block to watch next. One business there is leaving, another planned tenant hasn't been confirmed, and the landlord at 3415 has said the space is meant for a neighbor's expansion. None of the sources we reviewed say which business that is.

Why this stretch keeps getting picked

The Chamber's own programs help explain the pull toward the middle of Broadway, even if no single source spells out why businesses choose an address. Dine Out on Broadway, now in its sixth season, closed Broadway between Belmont and Wellington on three summer weekends: June 12 to 14, July 10 to 12, and August 21 to 23. Restaurants on those blocks got the open street and room for bigger patios. Ann Sather's bigger outdoor seating at 3042 sits inside that closure zone, and the current location at 3415 sits outside it.

The storefronts themselves have an incentive too. The SSA #8 façade program covers Broadway from Diversey to Grace. It rebates 60% of approved storefront-improvement costs, up to $6,000 per storefront. That program runs the whole length of the corridor, so it doesn't explain why openings bunch up between Wellington and Belmont. It does help explain why so many of the new fronts along Broadway look freshly redone.

The next busy day on Broadway

The 3100 block's newcomers get their first busy Saturday together soon. The Chamber's Little Monster Crawl runs Saturday, October 31, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., along Broadway, Belmont and Clark. As of the Chamber's September 30 announcement, participating businesses hadn't been listed yet. A crawl that starts at the Belmont end of Broadway passes Tilly, Noodleverse, Sila's and The Bagel before reaching Wellington.

If your kids want a second round, Trick-or-Treat on Southport is the Monday before, October 26, from 4 to 7 p.m. between Roscoe and Grace. A "Thriller" performance near Cornelia starts at 5 p.m.

On Broadway, the opening still to watch for is a sign at 3042 saying Ann Sather is ready.
